Mutton Ahead

This piece of work has a very special place in my mind. It began a long line of works and spurted very many projects that have relevance in (Indian) art that have roots in Diné life and culture. While it calls on my life in the Diné homelands, it tells of my love for icon and logo design.

The title reflects on the need/want for road signs. I imagine these all over the Res to let the People know “life” continues to exist here. The Diné continue to live despite many tribulations, many of which continue to cause strife such as the abandoned uranium mines, lack of running water & electricity, and political battles over land & water rights to name a few.

This artwork resembles the Diné to believe in a positive outlook, because we know we’ll outlive these atrocities. We were here before colonization and we’ll be here long after.
